What the fuck has happened to The Young Turks? Prior to this election, I was a huge fan. It was one of the few places I got my news/perspective from. I even ended up meeting Cenk Uygur at a taping of the live show in NYC last summer. I was even a paying member to their website for 3 years up until I cancelled last month.
But their crusade against Hillary over the past year has given me serious pause as to whether I would ever watch them again after this election. The lies and propaganda they’ve used against Hillary makes me wonder what else they lie about and makes it hard to trust them going forward.
Jimmy Dore and Ana Kasparian are pushing the idea that if Trump becomes President, it will be better for the progressive movement because in 2018, there would be some magical uprising against Trump in the midterms and Dems will have a majority again. Meanwhile Trump will have invaded 3 countries, banned a religion, put punishments on abortion, limited the first amendment for the press, and nominated a conservative successor to Scalia.
In the above clip, Cenk pushes the idea that Hillary is “likely to be indicted”, therefore Bernie still has a shot at the nomination. Take a look at the comments on their videos relating to Hillary. I’ve seen their viewers call for her assassination. Most of their commenters say they are voting for Trump. And now with this latest nonsense, also pushed by Kyle Kulinski of Secular Talk, they are hoping and praying that she gets indicted.
At campaign events, their “reporter” Jordan employs Fox News esque tactics by interviewing a few politically un-savvy or less knowledgeable Hillary supporters, and then put out a video claiming that ALL Hillary supporters can’t name specific reasons for voting for her, with the general implication that Hillary voters are uneducated. It’s totally a Bill O’Reilly move.
There ought to be a Media Matters type response website that goes through their videos and points out their lies. Millions of young people no longer watch TV and therefore are getting their information from sources like TYT. But there is no one holding them accountable for their misinformation. If they are going to act like a legitimate news organization with a press reporter who now has access to political events and candidates, they need to be held accountable.
